Apparently, my dad (and you!) are not alone...
Nearly 30 million U.S. adults could benefit from hearing aids, but only a measly 20% were using them. Why? Because traditional hearing aids often cost a jaw-dropping $4,000 to $5,000 per pair!
As I dug deeper, I uncovered an ugly reality: the entire hearing aid industry was tightly controlled by audiologists, peddling the myth that you needed expensive, custom-fitted hearing aids "tuned just for you."
You couldn't just waltz into a store and buy hearing aids – you were forced to go through gatekeepers and get a prescription!
It was all a smokescreen to keep raking in enormous profits on what should be every humans right – to hear clearly.
I wasn't the only one who saw this ugly truth. In 2017, Congress delivered a game-changing victory for millions of Americans: The Over-the-Counter Hearing Aid Act.
This law was meant to shatter the old system and enable everyday Americans take control of their hearing with no audiologist visits, and no astronomical bills. A commendable act indeed.
But there were two major issues:
First: The FDA sat on their hands for FIVE YEARS after the law passed.
Second: This would flood the market with cheap, non-functional devices. Weeding through these would be a nightmare for consumers.
